Rafael Ito Velez

Rafael Velez Jr., lovingly known as “Ito”, a life-long resident of Newark, NJ, passed unexpectedly on October 7, 2022 at the age of 52.

Rafael is survived by his mother Lucita Figueroa; his brother, Adrian Ramos; his children, Rafael Antonio, Christina Nicole and Starlynn Mercedes; his grand daughter, Amethyst Destiny; his nephews, Bryeson and Ayden Ramos and lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is predeceased by his father Antonio Ramos, grandmother Benigna Figueroa and uncle William Figueroa.

Rafael was born in Newark, NJ on April 1, 1970 to Lucita Figueroa and Antonio Ramos. He was a 1988 graduate of Barringer High School. 

Ito was the epitome of a teddy bear. Although he portrayed a fierce character with his strong exterior, Ito was a protector of his family, friends and any animal in need. His gentle heart was displayed through his beautiful eyes, infectious smile, his warm embrace and devoted love for his mother. He lived for the simple pleasures of being with family and friends. Ito will be commemorated through his two nephews, Ayden and Bryeson. They display their baseball talents in various city teams and championships thanks to their loving uncle introducing them to the sport. He will forever be truly missed. 

Family and friends are invited to pay their respect on Saturday October 15, 2022 from 1 to 5 pm at the Americas Funeral Home, Newark
