Janice Marshall Council

Janice Marshall was born September 22, 1942 to the Late Lucy (Dawson) Marshall and the Late Claudius Marshall.  Janice has two brothers, Jessie Madison and Lenny Marshall.  Janice was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey.  Janice was educated in the Jersey City School District.  

Janice was a beloved mother and devoted wife and was affectionately called “Janice” by her children.  Janice was happily married to her husband John (Roach) Council for over 55 years.  Together they raised six children, Thelita (Lisa); the Late Dennis (Hassan); Bobby (Hooker); Anthony (Almalik); the Late John (Akbar) and Sahe Jamar (Chuckie).

Janice began working at an early age of 17 years old and was a dedicated employer.  Janice was employed at Matel and Rinco Toy Company; Nabisco Cookie Company and Koo Kups.  Janice worked to provide a better life for her children.  Janice was also employed as a home health aide at Chrill Home Service in Montclair, New Jersey for over 19 years.  Janice received Employee of the month Award for her dedicated service to the clients she served.  After Chrill Janice was employed at Stanley Professional Cleaning Service for over 7 years and she worked at New Jersey Community Corporation in Newark, New Jersey as a home friend helping and caring for seniors and the disabled.  In 2015 due to her health conditions Janice decided to retire.  Janice enjoyed most of all spending time with her family laughing listening to music, dancing and partying with friends.  Janice enjoyed going to Atlantic City and playing lottery scratch off ticket in spare time.  Janice was fashionable and would never be seen without her shades and polished finger nails.  One of Janice favorite sayings was “Cut that out” with her polished finger pointing in the air.  Janice was a strong and determined women who loved her family dearly.  

On June 4th 2020, Janice peacefully transitioned in her sleep to be with her Lord.  Janice was preceded in death by her two sons the late Dennis (Hassan) Marshall; the Late John (Akbar) Council and her grand-daughter the Late La Quanna Burgess and her grandson the Late Ya-Siah A. Danby.

Janice leaves to cherish her memories her husband John (Roach) Council; her two daughters Thealita (Lisa) Marshall and Tijuanna A. Marshall (Jones-Burton); her three sons Anthony (Almalik) Marshall, Bobby (Hooker) Marshall; and Sahe Jamar (Chuckie) Marshall; two brothers Jessie Madison and Lenny Marshall; two sister-in-laws Bertha (Cat) Bearfield and Dolly Mae Baldwin; one brother-in-law Johnnie (Mutt) Council; and a host of great grandchildren; grand children, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
