Alejandrina Soto

Alejandrina Mercado Ortiz – Soto nació el 22 de enero de 1944 en el barrio Papayo en el
pueblo de Sabana Grande en Puerto Rico. Sus padres se llamaban Narciso Mercado y
Juanita Ortiz, los cuales tuvieron 12 hijos, de los cuales ella hacía el número 8. Alejandrina
Soto se casó con Luis Angel Soto de San Germán el 26 de julio de 1969. Ellos tuvieron 3

hijos: Leticia Soto, Israel Soto y Alex Soto.

Su segundo hijo Israel Soto se casó con Joyce y le dio 3 nietos: Luis Ángel, Israel Jr. y
Thomas Paul. Su tercer hijo Alex Soto se casó con Alexa y le dio dos nietos: Gideon Juan y

Lucia Ana.

Alejandrina fue una buena esposa, excelente madre y una abuela cariñosa y cuidadosa de
su familia. Su gozo siempre era ver a su familia unida y poder cocinar sus platillos

preferidos.

Un evento importante en la vida de Alejandrina fue cuando se convirtió al Señor en mayo

de 1989.

Alejandrina fue como segunda madre para Rosa Zelaya. Ella fue el instrumento que Dios
uso para traer a su hermana a los caminos del Señor. También ella como tía abuela tuvo el
privilegio de cuidar a Stephanie Zelaya Encalada y Joel Zelaya sus sobrinos y ver cumplir

el propósito de Dios en la vida de ellos en el ministerio.

Aunque ella no podía cantar ella cantaba todas las mañanas mientras barría o trapeaba.
La canción que ella cantaba era, "Dios es nuestro Amparo, nuestra fortaleza, nuestro
pronto auxilió." Ella también hacía canciones de oración a Dios. Una de sus canciones
decía así, “Salva mis hijos Señor, sálvalos, sálvalos, sálvalos tu mis Señor. Tú me los disteis
Señor, pero a ti te pertenecen porque tú eres su creador. Salva mis nietos Señor sálvalos,
sálvalos, sálvalos tu mis Señor. Tú me los disteis Señor, pero a ti te pertenecen porque tú

eres su creado.”

Alejandrina amaba leer la palabra del Señor y siempre que ella tenía la oportunidad
compartía la palabra con otros. Ella era sencilla y callada, pero lograba ganarse el cariño y

simpatía de los demás.

Alejandrina fue a morar con el Señor el 22 de abril del 2024.

La Familia Soto y Familia Zelaya extrañaremos a Alejandrina. Más le damos gracias a Dios

por su vida.

Familiares y amigos están invitados a la velación el día Lunes 29 de Abril  desde las 04:00 p.m. hasta la 08:00 p.m. en la funeraria Villa Americas, ubicada en (279 Roseville Avenue Newark, NJ 07107) y Martes 30, de Abril 2024 desde las 9:00 a.m. hasta las 10:00 a.m.

Alejandrina Soto

22 January 1944 – 22 April 2024

Alejandrina Mercado Ortiz-Soto was born on January 22, 1944 in the Papayo
neighborhood in the town of Sabana Grande in Puerto Rico. Her parents' names
were Narciso Mercado and Juanita Ortiz, and they had 12 children, of which she
was number 8. Alejandrina Soto married Luis Angel Soto of San Germán on July 26,

1969. They had 3 children: Leticia Soto, Israel Soto, and Alex Soto.

Their second son, Israel Soto, married Joyce and they bore her 3 grandsons: Luis
Angel, Israel Jr., and Thomas Paul. Their third child, Alex Soto, married Alexa and

bore her two grandchildren: Gideon Juan and Lucia Ana.

Alejandrina was a good wife, an excellent mother, and a loving and caring
grandmother to her family. Her joy was always to see her family united and to be

able to cook their favorite dishes.

An important event in Alejandrina's life was when she was converted to the Lord in

May 1989.

Alejandrina was like a second mother to Rosa Zelaya. She was the instrument God
used to bring her sister into the ways of the Lord. She, too, as an aunt, had the
privilege of caring for Stephanie Zelaya Encalada and Joel Zelaya, her nieces and
nephews, and seeing God's purpose fulfilled in their lives in ministry.
Although she couldn't sing, she sang every morning while sweeping or mopping.
The song she sang was, "God is our Protection, our strength, our help." She also
sang songs of prayer to God. One of her songs went like this, "Save my children
Lord, save them, save them, save them, my Lord. You gave them to me, Lord, but

they belong to you because you are their creator.

Alejandrina loved to read the word of the Lord and whenever she had the
opportunity she shared the word with others. She was simple and quiet, but she

managed to win the affection and sympathy of others.
Alejandrina went to dwell with the Lord on April 22, 2024.

The Soto Family and Zelaya Family will miss Alejandrina. But we thank God for her

life.

Visitation on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 09:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Funeral on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Rosedale Cemetery located at (408 Orange Rd, Montclair, NJ 07042)  at 11:00 a.m.
