ARLINDO MAFALDO

Arlindo Mafaldo was born May 24, 1931, in Codecoso, Boticas, Portugal. His parents were Joao Bento Pires Mafaldo and Ana Goncalves de Carvalho.

As a young man, he moved to Lisbon to work, and he met and married his beloved wife Custodia there. In 1969, he immigrated to the USA. His wife and daughter, Ana, joined him the following year, and they settled in Newark, NJ. Shortly after, Custodia suffered a debilitating stroke and Arlindo lovingly took care of her until she passed in 2012. Tragically, in 1996, his precious daughter Ana passed away at age 28 years old.

Arlindo had a strong work ethic, employed at various construction companies until he retired. After his retirement, he loved to tend to his small garden and took pride in his tomatoes, fig trees and many rose bushes. He regularly walked around his neighborhood, and on good days he would sit outside and greet everyone that passed by.

He also enjoyed watching the Portuguese version of " The Price Is Right " and some Spanish telenovelas.

He is survived by his older sister Ermelinda, 16 nieces and nephews, and his long-time companion Maria Fernandes.
