Maurice Robert French was born November 24, 1937 at Herman Kiefer Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.  He was the sixth child born to Willie Walter French and Arleva Murray French.  As the youngest son, his mom affectionately nicknamed him “baby boy.”
 
Maurice was educated in the Detroit Public School system and attended George Trade School in Detroit. 
 
Maurice was in the United States Marine Corp Reserves and was eventually drafted into the United States Army.  He returned to Detroit after being honorably discharged from the Army.  A few years later, he went to New Jersey to visit his sister, Cozette, and decided to make New Jersey his home.
 
On July 10, 1962, he was united in holy matrimony to Alma Joyce French.  To this union, three daughters were born.
 
Maurice liked to cook and loved telling jokes.  He enjoyed spending time with his children, grand-children and great-grandchildren.  He made many trips back to Detroit to spend time with his siblings, nieces and nephews.
 
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Cozette French and Arleva Geer and three brothers, Willie French, William French and George French.
 
While at home with his daughter, Kecia, Maurice was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017.
 
Maurice leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of over 54 years, Alma French; three daughters, Monica Floyd, Lisa French-Adkins and Kecia French; one son-in-law, Will Floyd; five grandchildren, Yakima French, Rashawnah French, Farquan French, Daniel French, and Kendell Boone; four great-grandchildren, Shamik Sexton, Knight Sexton, Aurelia Sanchez-French and Kayden Boone, four sisters, Ruby French, Geraldine Harley, Sylvia Muhammad and Florine French (all from Detroit, Michigan); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
